Introducing Aug,Atl, & Harlem, New York Yung Rich Bandit
"Lawless".
Calling himself a Yung Rich Bandit and the highly feared YuGn on Top, "Lawless" is making his way in the rap game as a native of both Augusta and New York City. Although he is mostly a southern rapper, having partially grown up in New York he was heavily influenced by artists throughout the North. At an early age, his uncle Bruce Lamar "Bankie" Mayfield introduced him to music. Mayfield can be linked to the iconic American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan and the American Cream Team. After the legendary rapper and actor passing in 2000, Lawless began to perfect his craft in music and continue his uncles legacy. Other musical influences of his include Run DMC, KRS-One, 50 cent, Nas, Jay-Z, Young Scooter, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I. and Jeezy. Taking note from artists before him, you can hear the influence of the east coast in his music, blending New York with Georgia. Check out what Lawless has to say about who he is and his musical background below.
How did you get your start in music?
I got my start when I was 7 years old. I use to listen to all of Run DMC and go back and forth with verses.
How did you come up with your rap name?
Sounds a bit odd, but I came up with name while watching a movie. I watched this movie about 10 times and it was called Lawless. In the movie the main characters were well- respected hustlers. They had the attitude and charisma that wouldn't let no one stop them from getting money. I saw myself in them.
Who are your musical influences?
Its a a whole lot. I would say Biggie, Run DMC and Wu-Tang were from the start. As as I got familiar with music Lil Wayne, T.I., Jeezy, Rick Ross, Future and Young Scooter started influencing me too.
How has being raised in New York and Georgia influenced your sound and lyrical content?
I got to see things different from a street perspective. The hustle and mindset is different, but life and the passion for music and getting money is the same. I rap about the things I've seen in both areas.
Other than music what are you interested in?
Golf, fashion, business, family, friends and God.
Do you write and produce your own music?
As an independent artist, I write my own music. It sounds more natural that way once I record. There's no ghost writer, I write my shit on pen and a pad or in my phone.
What was it like working with Young Scooter and what brought that about?
It was EPIC. It was real street shit coming out the both of us. I hit him up and he pretty much said push up. I realized that if you not about your business then no one takes you seriously or wants to work with you. They will not fuck with your campaign or whatever you have going on. Street shit and music is business.
How do you decide on the type of song you will record when in the studio?
I just keep my ear to the streets and go from there. I tell my life experiences. I say whatever come to my mind.
When can the fans expect a project from you?
Late February 2k17
